Coventry based Chesman Engineering, which specialises in motorsport, has ventured into Europe. The Company provides engine machining services for some of motor-sport's most famous names, including Ferrari, Maserati, Jaguar and Aston Martin.

Chesman Engineering's expertise lies in the vintage and classic car market, machining new cylinder bores, balance crankshafts and polish cylinder heads. Managing director Steve Pearson, who took over the running of the firm nine years ago, recently visited a trade show in Germany to boost the profile of the company across Europe.

"Our skills are highly sought-after these days and much of our business comes from recommendation," Mr Pearson said. "We have been looking at developing our position in Europe and the best way to do this was to become involved with exhibitions such as Techno Classica in Essen. 'The international trade team at Coventry and Warwickshire Chamber of Commerce has helped us and we found the exposure was ideal, with interest from new markets and obtaining additional business from our established clients," he added.

Mr Pearson joined Chesman Engineering at 16-years-old, working in the polishing shop. The company was originally called Greatham Engineering and was taken over by power boat champion Andy Chesman in the 1960s. Mr Chesman went on to become European and World Hydroplane Champion but lost his life in a racing accident eight years ago.

Mr Pearson, now 43, took over the running of the firm, which employs seven specialist engineers at its workshop in Coventry.
